This was the most fun I've ever had at a literary event: Regreturature, a fund-raiser for LitQuake, in which about a dozen of us from the San Francisco Writers' Grotto read the most humiliating juvenilia, misfires, and bad ideas of our careers. We read high school poetry, first novels, ill-considered screenplays, and arrogantly stupid letters to editors. We made people laugh, we raised a ton of money for one of the country's best literary festivals, and we bonded in our shame. We're already talking about Regreturature II next spring. Here was my moment in the sun:
